Who I’m voting for…

As some of you know, I’m somewhat involved in the community around here. For likely the first time in my life I actually know everyone running for my local city council races ( and most of them folks in the school board races ).  Right off the top I’ll say that I think everyone running for city council is eminently qualified, and no matter who wins I think we’ll have good folks representing us.  So, in case anyone cares, here’s my thoughts on the races: 1. Mayor of Santa Clara: Jamie Matthews and Chris Stampolis I’ve known Chris Stampolis for a number of years, originally through working together on the crew of Democratic TV and since then on a variety of activities because we both live in Santa Clara.  When I was interested in...

I rode 25 miles and didn’t die!

As some of you know, because I emailed you and asked you to donate to the American Diabetes Association for my ride in the Napa Tour de Cure.  My friend, Mark, had organized a team, and because I had the same kind of bike as he has he asked me if I’d like to join in.  He promised the ride would be pretty and flat. My friends totally came thru and donate a bunch more money than I even expected, and I’m both proud and extremely humbled by the generosity of people I know. The bike ride itself was up in Yountville, CA, just north of Napa, on the morning of May 5th.  Loretta’s sister Maureen went up with me and also did the ride.  We went up the night before because we needed to be at the start between 9am and 10am, and...

Signed by Steve Wozniak Memorabilia

So, back in January, at MacWorld, a guy out in front of the center handed me a flyer. Anyone who has been to MacWorld knows that folks are constantly trying to hand you brochures and information sheets, and occasionally glossy pictures of strippers. Most of the time I politely refuse, but I took this one because it piqued my interest. It was a flyer for the website Signed by Woz, where various bits of computer history can be purchased after Steve Wozniak. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration: If I have Steve Wozniak sign the “Signed by Steve Wozniak merchandise” flyer, it itself becomes “Signed by Steve Wozniak merchandise!” And so, I present to you my very own little bit of Memorabilia signed by Steve...

I swear, it’s not like I purposely don’t write stuff here

Life has been eventful lately. Work is, well, work-like, but the major interruption in our life of late was last week when Loretta’s mother passed away. So, Loretta and I spent an unscheduled week or so in Nebraska, with her family, driving a lot ( 980 miles in 7 days in the rental car ) and doing about as well as you can be when a parent passes away. I, of course, am a geek, maybe even when I shouldn’t be. Like, for example, because I got the gps location of Mary’s grave, because someday we may want to be able to know exactly where it is. Maybe 20 or 30 years from now, when the cemetery has been expanded / changed / whatever, and my memory is starting to go, I suspect that with this piece of info we can find it again within about 15′ or...
